EPISODE #5 | 9:30 AM, Monday, May 11, 2020
US Representative James E. Clyburn on the coronavirus
Guest: US House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn
Join US Rep James E. Clyburn, popular radio host Terry Base, and Garcia Williams, executive director of The Medi, for a #COVID19 conversation about:
COVID-19's impact on communities of color, from overall care to availability of testing
The impact of technology, and its lack of accessibility, on COVID-19 and people of color... plus those in our rural areas
Rep. Clyburn's new role and responsibilities heading the US House of Representatives Oversight Committee on Coronavirus
Hear firsthand the congressman's perspectives on what we need to know and what we must do to secure resources during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among other things, Rep. Clyburn has noted that healthcare and other fraud has run rampant during the coronavirus pandemic and, more than ever, African Americans are being victimized.
“This pandemic is visiting family after family after family," he has said. "We know from all of the data that it is being visited more harshly and more prevalent among African American communities, and some Latino communities all over the country,”
Technology disparities are at the forefront of his agenda, and he planned to work specifically to mitigate access issues for schoolchildren as well as access to telehealth in some of our rural and underserved communities.
